Dj Quik - Born and Raised in Compton (The Greatest Hits) (2006)

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

 front cover
Instead of joining the G-Funk movement during the ’90s, DJ Quik created his own style of P-Funk with equal nods to Roger Troutman (Zapp), Geaorge Clinton (Parliament/Funkadelic) and N.W.A. (Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Eazy-E). The first one-man hit squad, he produced tracks with an unadulterated love for the music, while writing rhymes with miles of laid-back style. The 1991 debut, Quik Is The Name, immediately established DJ Quik as a new force in West Coast hip-hop and heralded the arrival of one of the most extraordinary producers to come out of Compton. Throughout his career he has produced hit after hit with one Platinum and three Gold albums of his own plus numerous production credits on hits for everyone from 2Pac and Jay-Z to Janet Jackson and Whitney Houston. This is  a 14 tracks collection published in 2006 under Arista/Profile label. NjoY! (more…)

De La Soul - De La Mix Tape: Remixes, Rarities & Classics (2004)

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

front cover
Groundbreaking trio De La Soul’s inimitable “verbal confetti” changed the face of hip-hop forever. Pulsing with razor-sharp wordplay and deftly turned rhymes, their revolutionary, neo-psychedelic sound introduced itself with the #1 1989 debut 3 Feet High And Rising and the #1 R&B/Top 40 phenomenon “Me, Myself, And I.” A harder-edged sound emerged on ’91’s De La Soul Is Dead , and De La’s brilliant artistry continued to evolve with album classics including Buhloone Mindstate (’93) and Stakes Is High (’96). This all-new career-spanning collection of “lost cuts” mines the flip-side of their crossover smashes, including sides from rare Tommy Boy singles, dope remixes, bonus tracks, promo-only specialties, previously unreleased gems, and more!
