DJ Premier: <<Over the years, I have been approached by so many fans to put out an instrumental album. This particular project is a series titled “BEATS THAT COLLECTED DUST Vol. 1” for a reason. Since I do intend on doing instrumental LP’s for the true heads, I did not want to confuse my so-called “Lost Tapes” beats with new ones. So I split ‘em up. This (”B.T.C.D.”) series consists of beats that were either for artists and were never used, or were just not adequate enough for me to ever release them with MC’s spittin’ over them. These are truly as we all know not my best work, but I had no plans of releasing them anyway. Then I thought, why not put them out “As Is” and let them be shared to the world. Most of them are just rough demos from the 1999-2003 period, and when I started goin thru all of my old disks to listen to what I never used, I put them in a folder and my label manager, BIGGEST GORD, co-signed the idea to let em fly. I will be releasing new original tracks as well under a different title, but I have a bunch of old joints that will never see the light of day unless they are released through this series. Get ready for Vol. 2. Be on the lookout for my other original series of instrumentals called DJ PREMIER presents: “HEAD NODDERS”. Staten Island, NY, native N.Y.OIL is known for his racy rhymes, social commentary and forthright observations pertaining to the state of black culture and hip- hop. Best known for his raucous single and accompanying video for “Y’all Should Get Lynched” which features photos of A-list hip-hop luminaries Three 6 Mafia, Jim Jones, The Game and 50 Cent juxtaposed with stark images of slavery and lynchings, the video was banned from YouTube within its first 48 hours of upload and generated an immediate firestorm of controversy. Both a divisive and unifying figure, NY Oil speaks unabashedly about the deplorable state of commercial hip-hop music and culture on his debut release, which will now enjoy its inaugural wide release with an entire additional disc of 10 tracks after a limitied and spotty self-release of the 1 disc configuration by the artist himself. Originally formed in Queens, NY, during 1990, the members of Onyx (Fredro Starr, Sticky Fingaz, Big DS, and DJ Suave Sonny Caeser) met while working as barbers. The band honed their rhyming skills and act by performing at local clubs, which eventually gained the attention of Run-D.M.C.’s Jam Master Jay, who signed the group to his label, JMJ Records, and even helped produce Onyx’s debut full-length, Bacdafucup, in 1993. The album turned out to be a platinum-certified smash and the rest was history and the group went on to sell millions of records. Due to the Deaths of Members Big DS, X1 and Jam Master Jay, Onyx has once again come together to bring you “Cold Case Files” after the unsolved deaths of Jam Master Jay, Big DS and X1. The new album features the original members, Fredro Starr, Sun Cee, Sticky Fingaz. Also features recordings of X1of Big DS before their deaths. (more…)
